'Marty Supreme' Set Photography in the Lower East Side

A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I stumbled upon the filming of ‘Marty Supreme’ on Orchard Street in the Lower East Side. This upcoming A24 film, directed by Josh Safdie, is inspired by the life of professional ping pong player Marty Reisman and is set in the 1950s.

The transformation of Orchard Street was incredible, featuring vintage cars, faded awnings that echoed NYC’s historic garment district and even a horse-drawn carriage.

For anyone unfamiliar, Orchard Street was historically the heart of New York's garment and fashion industry. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was packed with small clothing shops, fabric stores, and street vendors selling garments and accessories. Although there are still a couple of fabric stores on Orchard, it’s now mostly filled with trendy bars and restaurants.

A few days later, I found out the crew was filming again, this time on Eldridge and Broome. I headed over and captured a few photos of the setup there, which you’ll find included below.

All photos were shot on Portra 400 with a Contax G2 camera and Carl Zeiss Biogon T* 28mm f/2.8 lens.
